Her name is IVY, it's about the book..

Imagine the possibility of living in a village like Mbawuar, where girls of school age like IVY and Angbiandoo are given the chance to acquire Education,
Imagine a village in Kano where girls between ages 12-17 are not dragged into child marriage with older men, to suffer sexual abuse, and the consequences of child birth at such tender age,
Imagine that we are together CAN put a stop to child marriage, increase educational access for girls in rural communities, with the aim to empowering girls and women, building civic participation, rural development and creating an environment that supports women and debase social and gender violence.
It’s not just possible, it’s doable. But we have to do it together as OUR collective project.
With the #AidaRuralGirlSchoolProject, we have been able to enroll 25 out of school girls back to school, in 7 communities in Benue state, we love to do more, together.
IVY, is an illustration book, with the written story of two girls of school age living in two different communities whose path crossed due to their marriage with a local chief, became social problems and strive thereafter to escape the webs of marriage and abuse for a better future.
The illustrations are visual, with powerful messages to be disseminated amongst stakeholders, government personnel and children of school age with the aim of promoting education and curbing social practices that seek to undermine the girl child.
A curriculum, has been developed, to aid dissemination of the message which will be taught to children and parents alike in our communities.

We need partnership with High schools, Media agencies, CSOs, NGOs, Individuals, Photographers, Artists, Writers, and most important of all, volunteer teachers.
We appreciate financial support to aid the publication of the book, launching and planned distribution, inclusive of curriculum materials.

Cows stray into Nigeria airport runaway, delay aircraft’s landing

An Air Peace flight was prevented from landing Saturday as cows strayed into the runway of the Akure airport in Ondo state.

The airplane, which travelled from Lagos for Akure, was delayed for several minutes, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said.

FAAN said normalcy has since been restored at the airport as officers of the aviation security department quickly dispersed the cows from the runway.

It said the aircraft had since been cleared for landing after it was delayed for several minutes.

FAAN apologised to Air Peace Airlines and passengers for the incident.

“The Authority will like to assure travellers and the general public that efforts are already ongoing to close the gap that aided this incident,” it said.

BENUE STATE UNIVERSITY SHUT DOWN AGAIN

The management of Benue State University, Makurdi on Friday shut down the institution following student unrest over tuition fees.

The action of the students followed the management’s decision to prevent anyone yet to pay tuition fees from sitting examination, which commenced on Monday.

The enraged students blocked the Makurdi/Gboko Expressway, forcing motorists to make use of alternative routes.

Some of the students, who expressed anger, said they embarked on the protest to draw the attention of the school’s authorities to the prevailing economic situation in the state.

One student, who preferred not to reveal his name, said, “How can they stop us from sitting examination just because we cannot pay school fees? Our parents are yet to be paid for several months by the Benue State Government, so where do they want us to get the fees from?”

Another student, James Abah, said that their leaders proposed to the university authorities to allow them take the examination and pay the fees at the time of collecting their certificates but that their request was rejected.
